Who are Solicitors for the Elderly?

Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) were founded in 1996 and are an independent national organisation of over 1700 lawyers in the UK who specialise in advising and working with older and vulnerable clients, as well as working with the government and other organisations to represent the interests of older and vulnerable people.

What is update your will week?

Update your will week is an awareness campaign hosted by SFE to highlight the importance of having an up-to-date will.

Having an up-to-date will ensures that your wishes are carried out how you desire when you pass away, which helps ease the distress of your loved ones at a difficult time.

When should I update my will?

You should update your will following any significant life event. These can include but are not limited to, having a child, a change in your family relationship such as separating from your partner or starting a new relationship or a change in your financial situation or a death in the family.

Research conducted by SFE shows that 70% of parents in the South East have no legal plans in place to make sure their children are looked after should they die and 4 in 10 wills in the South East are out of date. Whilst 22% of the respondents know someone who has been affected by something going wrong with a will.

Our solicitors recommend reviewing and updating your will every five years, or when there has been a major change in your life that has impacted you or your loved ones
