Morr & Co LLP is an established but modern top 200 law firm with plans for growth. We pride ourselves on providing high quality and creative thinking, as well as generating enduring relationships. The firm’s culture of listening to and supporting others applies as much to the approach we take with our clients as it does to the connections we build with our colleagues. We have a long history and big ambitions, and we believe that we combine the quality, capability, and resources of a large firm with the approachability of a smaller practice. As a firm, we are also committed to harnessing technology in order to continually improve the quality, efficiency and delivery of our services. Our Court of Protection team is a specialist, award-winning practice supporting vulnerable clients and their families across a broad range of property and financial affairs matters. The team works with clients whose circumstances include acquired and birth injury, personal injury and clinical negligence settlements, dementia, neurodivergence, complex care needs, safeguarding concerns and other causes of impaired decision-making capacity. The team is led by Holly Chantler, a nationally recognised Court of Protection and vulnerable client specialist, and includes experienced senior lawyers with complementary expertise in professional deputyship, community care and care funding, catastrophic injury compensation, personal injury trusts, SEN and transition to adulthood, mediation, financial abuse, safeguarding and complex capacity issues. The team also undertakes specialist work with prisoners, missing persons and matters with an international dimension. We are looking for a solicitor with approximately 4-6 years’ post-qualification experience to join our growing Court of Protection team. This is an opportunity for a solicitor who already has a sound grounding in Court of Protection work and wants to develop a broader and more technically complex practice within a supportive specialist team. You will manage your own caseload with appropriate supervision and support, while working alongside senior members of the team on more complex matters. The role offers scope to deepen your expertise, take increasing responsibility for client relationships and develop your own areas of interest within Court of Protection and vulnerable client work. Managing a caseload of property and financial affairs deputyship matters, with responsibility appropriate to your experience. Supporting professional deputies in making and implementing best-interests decisions concerning clients’ property, finances, care arrangements and wider financial needs. Preparing routine and non-routine Court of Protection applications, including applications relating to property transactions, authority under deputyship orders, gifts, statutory wills and other financial decisions. Working with clients who have received personal injury or clinical negligence awards, including matters involving complex care packages, substantial damages, periodical payments and personal injury trusts. Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns, financial abuse and potential misuse of funds or authority. Liaising with clients, family members, case managers, care providers, financial advisers, accountants, counsel, local authorities, the NHS, the Office of the Public Guardian and other professionals. Preparing annual OPG reports and ensuring matters are managed in accordance with deputy standards, court orders and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Contributing to the effective delegation and progression of work across the team, including working closely with paralegals, trainees and other colleagues. Taking part in business development, referrer relationships, training and profile-raising activity as your experience develops. The suitable candidate: A qualified solicitor with approximately 4-6 years’ PQE and meaningful experience of Court of Protection property and financial affairs work. A sound understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, professional deputyship practice and the role of the Office of the Public Guardian. Experience of managing matters with appropriate autonomy, while recognising when an issue requires escalation or senior input. Strong judgment, organisation and drafting skills, with the ability to deal sensitively and confidently with vulnerable clients and their families. An interest in developing technical expertise beyond routine deputyship administration. Experience of personal injury/clinical negligence, community care, care funding, safeguarding, financial abuse, welfare or capacity issues would be welcomed but is not essential. A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues across different levels of experience. Commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of proportionate, efficient and high-quality file management and billing. An interest in building professional relationships and contributing to the future growth of the team. An existing following is not required. You will join a specialist team with genuine breadth. Our senior lawyers have complementary practices spanning complex professional deputyship, community care and funding disputes, personal injury and clinical negligence compensation management, personal injury trusts, SEN and vulnerable children, mediation, safeguarding, financial abuse and international capacity work. That breadth creates real opportunities to develop. We want the successful candidate to become a stronger Court of Protection practitioner, not simply to process a larger volume of files. You will have access to senior technical support, exposure to complex work and the opportunity to develop areas of expertise that fit both your interests and the future direction of the team. There is a clear progression pathway for an ambitious and capable solicitor. Our career development programme provides clear expectations, individual feedback and tailored technical training, with progression and reward linked to contribution rather than tenure. We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits and, for the right candidate, are open to flexibility around location and hybrid working. Morr & Co LLP are committed to promoting equal opportunities for all candidates irrespective of your age, sex, race, colour, religion, religious belief, national original marital status, sexual orientation, physical disability or mental disability, including persons who have aids or have tested HIV-positive or any other legally protected classification, except as may be permitted by law. The firm is committed to provide an environment in which the rights and dignity of all its employees are respected, and which is free from discrimination, prejudice, intimidation and all forms of harassment including bullying. If, as a result of a disability, you believe that there are aspects of the recruitment process or job that you would find more difficult, please contact a member of HR Team as soon as possible. We will then be able to discuss with you any reasonable adjustments that could be made to the recruitment process or the job itself. Any equality data provided by you will be used to monitor our diversity policies and practices. Key details Location Redhill Contracted hours 9-5 Salary Competitive Employment type Full time Apply now
